"You Are Good, You Are Pure Good"
The Ripple of a Kind Word
There are moments in life that feel like tectonic plates shifting within—moments that don’t arrive with fanfare, but instead slip in gently, and yet manage to rearrange everything inside.
This is about one of those moments.
It happened recently, as I was moving through something tender.
Actually, it was more than tender. I was deeply in it—navigating trauma that feels as old as time itself. The kind that doesn’t always have a clear beginning, but lives in the body like a memory carved into bone.
It was triggered—lovingly, painfully—by an interaction with my mother.
Someone I love deeply.
Someone who holds the power, perhaps unknowingly, to bring me right back into places I’ve spent years softening, understanding, and healing.
She never means to hurt me.
And yet, the past has ways of echoing into the present, even when love is abundant and intentions are good.
So, there I was, swirling in that space—the heavy, vulnerable, hard-to-name place we go when old wounds are stirred.
And that’s when she came to me.
A woman who’s known me since I was a little girl.
I hadn’t seen her in a very long time—years, maybe more. But time and space have a funny way of becoming irrelevant when true care is present.
She embraced me without hesitation.
And in that warm, grounded hug, she simply whispered:
“You are good. You are pure good.”
That’s it.
Five words. Softly spoken.
They rippled through me like an earthquake—one that didn’t destroy, but liberated. One that gently shook loose every piece of shame, self-blame, and weight I’d been unknowingly clutching.
In an instant, those words—her presence—shifted everything.
They cleared the fog. They reminded me of my essence.
They pierced the storm and helped me remember who I am beneath it all.
It’s hard to explain the magnitude of something so simple.
But that’s the thing about love, about presence, about truth—it doesn’t need to be loud or elaborate to be life-changing.
This moment reminded me of the profound power good people carry.
How healing it is to be truly seen—whether by a lifelong friend, a woman in your circle, a neighbour, or even a stranger. And how deeply our words matter.
Not in a preformative way. Not in the “you should always be this way” kind of way.
I’m the first to admit, I don’t always have the capacity to show up like this every day. I try. But I’m human.
This isn’t about perfection.
It’s about mindfulness.
It’s about presence.
It’s about remembering the power we hold when we choose to show up with care.
Sometimes, the medicine isn’t in a grand solution.
It’s in the smallest gestures—a look, a hand on the shoulder, a whisper in an embrace.
So this is a love letter to those moments.
To the good people who remind us of our goodness.
To the simplicity of words spoken from the heart.
To the lifelong friend, the woman you haven’t seen in years, who still knows how to hold you when it matters.
To the neighbours who waves with warmth.
To the strangers who smile with sincerity.
Because we never know what someone is carrying.
But we always have the power to offer light.
And sometimes, five words whispered through love can change everything.
